ok here goes: 95 gt. just decided to upgrade my rotors to drilled/slotted summit racing brand. then i added ebc ceramic pads. they seem to of went on fine but now when i go to put my calipers back on (yes i used the special tool and got the pistons back in flush where they are supposed to be)the calipers do not seem to want to line up. i can get one of the caliper botls started but i cant get the other side to twist and line up right. anyone have a problem like this or is something really messed up? i need help ASAP because my car is supposed to be going into the engine shop to upgrade some stuff.

never heard of this problem... i just use an 8" C-clamp to compress my piston..... .. . perhaps (i hate to tell you this) you should take it off again, OPEN the brake fluid resivour, and then try recompressing the piston...

try and do this as quickly as possible because the brake fluid is sensitive to the moisture in the air... it wont hurt anything, but it causes the fluid to decompose faster... dont know if you care about that... lol but i would let you know.

ill try it and see if it works. its weird. when i went to take the caliper off the car to change it all i left the emergency brake on. i had to releas eit to get the caliper off so i dont know if that threw something off or not. i even pulled the ebrake again and the caliper still wont mount right. so i have no idea. my buddy is supposed to come take a look at it tomorrow for me. he knows more about them then i do.

are you doing front or rear? id leave the e-brake off and use a wheel-chalk to keep the car from rolling.

did you get the right pads?
is the rubber hose kinked/twisted... that would prevent the fluid from compressing...
perhaps a piston is fused? that happened in my V6 mustang and i had to replace the entire unit...

i think there is some kind of sliding sleeve either in the caliper or on the bracket that needs to be repositioned.

i jsut did my frotn brakes and we had a problem of getting the new pads to fit into the caliper... there was a small metal braket that fit around the pad that we had to hold out of place to get them to set correctly. i would look into that, or into wether a piston seized up...

also, i hope your friend knows about DISC brakes, lol. because 88s came with drums in the rear :p

yeah he knows about discs. our mutual buddy had a 96 gt. so he did alot of work on it. its just weird. ill havr to look at ever possible thing. i know when we had to push the rear piston in that it took 2 of us and alot of penetrating oil. so maybe the caliper is going bad.

There is a shim located in the caliper that helps hold the pads in there. It's a good idea to keep that in there. If your pads don't go in with it in i would suggest trying different pads. Also make sure your piston is fully depressed into your Caliper and make sure your slide pins and lubed up also. Another thing if you have a dial caliper i would check the thickness of the rotor and see what it stands then i would check it against a stock new rotor. See if it is bigger or not

i think the weird looking u like spring that is on the pads them selves have to fit a certain way onto the caliper. my buddy came over and we pissed with them for an hour and pushed them on and finally got them to line up and bolt on tight. and the wheels spin. havent tried the brake pedal yet due to the last caliper drying from the paint. but i hope it is fixed now. cobra upgrade will be going on next time. lol.

Yes the rear pistons have to be twisted in order to be pushed in. One thing to check that gave me a hell of a time is make sure both of the pins still slide freely. On mine what happened was one was frozen so after adding the new pads i could not get the caliper reinstalled correctly. Both of the pins that hold the caliper are supposed to slide freely...

Yea i bought new ones and they still were a bitch. i lined everything up on top and my buddy pushed and wiggled the caliper on and we got it all to line up and i tightened it down. they seem to work fine now but like i said next time its time for a cobra conversion. in the end it will be better and easier. lol.

okay i did a set of linconl brakes this weekend.. lol.

you have to use a c-clamp to compress the piston as much as possibe, then go to napa and get a brake-changing tool kit ($180.00 rental) and take the small washer with two bumps on it and put it on the piston. Use a ratchet to compress the piston until it stops. then put on the pads, slide on the caliper on, bolt it down, and then start 'er up :-D
