Well I wanted to get a cobra but after thinking about it and talking to my uncle about things, I've decided to keep my car since I already hvae it and its payed for, and build up a nice motor/trans and put it in. We were tlaking about different build ups and I want to know what you guys would do. I want to do a built auto with like a stall, and all the other goodies. But with the motor Im not too sure. I want somewhere around 400hp. I dont want to go the turbo/blower route, just a nice NA setup with somewhere close to or around 400hp. I want to stick with a 2valve too, but it dont matter. Can you guys help me out?

400 hp w/ a 2v n/a and auto... i hope you mean @ the flywheel and not at the tires. Around 320 is what you will see n/a. why no boost? your gonna put a lot of money trying to get everything out of the non pi 2v n/a when you could put the same $ boost and end up w/ more power

400ish to the flywheel is fine I dont need nothing crazy. I want to buy a new block and build up from there. I dont want to build my non-pied motor. well what would be the easiest, cheapest way to achieve 400hp or somewhere around there?

400rwp isn't gonna be very streetable out of a 2v. You would be better suited to switch to 4 valve heads, preferably C heads or Fr500 heads. you are better off doing a PI swap and any supercharger if you want to do it "cheap".

Well i'm about to pick up a low comp forged PI motor.. and i'm putting a V2 or kenne bell on it.. With an auto backing it up. So it ought to roll some heads when they look in the window and see a hammer shifter and a 5" tach, thinks it's nothing, and line up. I'll be gone in a flash 8)

n/a is going to be a rough ride on the street, your going to need a very aggressive cam and have bad mpg. s/c setup would give you better mpg and be a better street car, cheaper and easier.

I did the same thing Fets - good man using your noggin!
car paid for, in good condition....

if you want to raise the bar - big bore.

more torque down low - Stroker. (that's what I did)
also less $$ than bore.
Face it, NA, the 281 could use some help.

or a basic blower isn't really to espensive and is really funner than atmospheric pressure.

Definately do cams. Crower has nice profiles, or VT and others do a custom grind.

there's some exciting things in the works for new IM's for 2V's.
there's a notable restriction there.
the infamous 302 - 2V!

Good luck, i'm open to questions and such.
let us know how it's coming along.

also like Mean Green said, low 300's is all you'll get NA.
