To make a long story short i soon need to get my car inspected and the tailight is cracked and it wont pass inspection. I picked up another taillight so it could pass inspection, The other taillight is a different color so i plan on taking both taillights off and painting the plastic trim black, few questions, What kind of paint to use? Should i primer, Whats the best way to do it to get the best results?

my advice to you is to take them somewhere and have it done if you want good results u could probably find somebody to paint them cheap that actually knows what their doing. it just depends on what kind of results your looking for.

they are just thick plastic, if you have the stuff to paint em then just sand em down to a scuff, primer, paint and clear coat or use an Acrylic enamel, no clear coat involved

or you can go the cheap way and spray them with canned primer, paint and clear, they might look alright, but i dont think they will look as good as you would want them too

for best results you want base coat clear coat.....i say have someone else do them...having them tape them off alone is worth it to me ....i hated doing that when i did mine lol

yeah i got one from ebay that was hillbillied lol my driver side was cracked down by the reverse light and i wanted another, this dude claimed it was originally black, but when i got it, it was spiderwebbed and i could clearly see the black overspray on the red bezel. as long as you dont use spray paint and mask everything good, i think it will look ok. at least better than mine lol

i think for emissions sake i would put the uncracked one in and then just put yours back in and worry about painting it later when you can afford to have a pro spray it...
