Pats questions

So I own a 98 v6 and I was wondering does it have pats? It didnt come with the remote but it has a theft light and a pats key. Im a little confused because Ive read that v6's didnt have pats until 99 but then Ive also read they all had it from 96. Any help is much appreciated.

you can test it if you want to be sure. Put your key in your microwave for 2 mins on high to reprogram it. You will know its programming it when you see the sparks fly. When the sparks stop take the key out and try and see if it starts the car now. If it doesn't you have pats and will need to go to your dealership to buy a new key.

PATS has nothing to do with keyless entry, if thats what you're talking about. PATS is Passive Anti-Theft System (or security, can never remember), and basically all it does is make sure its your key starting your car. If the transponder on your key isn't there, it won't start.
