So the motor and engine harness from my 1996 cobra is all swapped in to my 1998 Gt. I tried starting it and it fired, but only for a second then died. I shut the key off, and tried again, same story.... If I leave the key in the 'on' position after trying to start it, and try again, it will just crank and not fire. PATS? *Check my build thread

The cobra pcm. And yeah it is... whenever the key is in the on and throughout cranking. I know 96 97 PATS did not include a starter shutoff, only cuts power after its started.
Ive been dickin around with it for 2 days. Im about to go to a tuner and get the PATS disabled all together.

more or less, it gets the job dont by either disabling the starter (late98-up), or by cutting power to the pcm after the car is started (96-97).If it doesnt 'sense' your chipped key it will shut down.

Lets hope, there are no performance shops in my hometown that can do tunes. I might be buying a sniper if the stealership cant do it.

Are you using the Cobra key? Did you also swap over the PATS module on the underside of the steering column?

the cheapest way to fix this problem would be to buy a new ignition with pats key from ur local parts store then you put new ignition and key in. turn the key to the on position. the anti theft light will flash for 15 mins then it will turn off. turn the key off then back on the theft light will flash again for 15 mins. turn it back off then on again and it will do the same thing for 15 mins once you do this long 45 min sequence and turn the ignition back off you can start the car. i found this on google when i did mod motor swap changed columns on one of my 96 cars it worked perfect and the ignition with keys was like 40 bucks

I tried this with a new key from the dealer with no luck. My theft light only flashes for 4 minutes maybe. Not the full 15 as described.

You have to replace the ignition tumbler itself not just get a key from the dealer go to Ur local parts store and say you need a new ignition for a 96 cobra it will come with keys take the ignition tumbler out of Ur column and do what I wrote above I assure you this works.

Will report back, is the light flashing for 4 minutes going to be an issue? Or was that because of the key?

Because of the key and swapping columns and computers it's jams the pats right away. So yea pull the old ignition out and replace with a new one they come with pats keys

The dealer can not turn off your PATS. I have already talked to them about doing it on the computer for my 66. You will need to go to a tuner so they can burn a chip for you.
