PCV Valve Question

So Ive noticed that the breather valve has been making funny noises. After further investigation It seems that I may also have Blow By because my dip stick gets shot out a inch or two. They say it can be caused by a clogged PCV Valve. So here is my question.

First off, the PCV valve is located on the lower intake center, so is it easier to replace without my upper intake on? Second, how do you replace it and do I need to replace it or could spraying out the filter with brake cleaner work?

Thanks Guys Im just super frustrated at this point. Because I hear I could be loosing power. Also Im afraid that its not the PCV valve but bad rings...

on my 96 there is a PCV valve located in the dead center of each valve cover. they sell new ones at autozone for $4.00... i pull it out, put the new one in, and attach the hose.

i dono about 5.0s thou.

The PCV valve should only be in 1 valve cover. Not both.

i want to say they are in both... i would go look, but my car is at the shop getting sub frames put in. lol.

Nope, just 1 side. Mine is on the pass. side. You must be referring to the tube that comes off the air intake and goes to the driver's side VC.

yea, i would have bet my soul that it had a PCV in it.

Nope, it's just an elbow for the plastic tube coming off the air intake.

I don't know what you guys are talking about with the PCV in the valve covers. It's not. At least not on 5.0s.

The PCV sits in the very back of the lower intake manifold. You can get to it without pulling anything off. Just reach back there, grab it, and pull it out. Disconnect the vacuum line from it. You can use a pick to pull the little metal screen out from beneath it, which can be cleaned with brake cleaner. Reinstall the metal screen, pop the new PCV in, and reattach the vacuum line. Done.

Chris and I were referring to the Modular. The PCV valve is in the RH VC.

On the LH side of the modular, it is part of the PCV system but not a pcv valve. I believe it aids with crankcase ventilation. Paul is dead on about the 5.0 setup though.

Yeah What I found out was the PCV Valve was actually out of the lower intake manifold. So I just cleaned the filter, placed the valve in and WHORA! It works :la:
