J.R., I hear people talk about retainers sometimes. Are they for high lift cams or what?

Crower makes a set of offset retainer's that will allow a higher lift cam to be able to be used in a NPI head, without machining the valve guides or anything.

Would that be a better route to take or just go ahead and get machine work?
Even if you do machine work.. wouldn't you have to get new retainers anyways?

If you had the guides machined you could use the stock retainer's, it's kind of 6 one way and a half dozen the others.

For those who are determined not to break that NPI seal, but want to run a higher lift cam than .540, the Crower retainer's are the way to do it.

So I could run PI cams with crower retainers and be set?

If I wanted to swap out the PI cams later for blower cams I could use the stock NPI valve springs and crower retainers and be set?

remember, i'm going for 500-600rwhp...

No... you will have to step to aftermarket springs to be able to handle the RPM's you will be running at then. Big difference between stock springs on a 250hp motor and stock springs on 500hp motor. Your springs will fail quickly in the 500 hp motor simply because of the RPM your motor will be making its power at.

no it won't hurt you to do it, but it will be kind of worthless to do it until you are going to actually be making that kind of power.

I want them to already be in there and done so it's one less worry...

What all do I need to change to be able to run 500-600rwhp?

So I know

Your heads will have to come off if 500 hp is your goal, unless you wanna get there the goofy way.
