So I'm in line to buy a 2000 Mustang Gt, 60k miles, mods are k&n filter, bbk plenum, ud pulleys, bbk headers and flows, and 2 aftermarket coils. He told me that he had a timing issue, car popped sometimes when he turned it on? I'm not familiar with mod motors so any help with this issue will help?

the only way to change timing on the mods is via the computer, or if he has the steeda timing adjuster kit (highly unlikely as they are not very popular.)

if its popping, i'm guessing its a bad valve.

worst case scenario: bad valve - head work needed.

best case scenario: crank positioning sensor is failing, 20 minute fix.

"in the middle" scenario: dude tried to tune it himself with a hand-held/mail order chip and it needs re-flashed ($450.00 on a dyno)

i just dont want to ignore it and then something happens and it cost me alot of money. thats why i probably am going to just go ahead and buy all new coils, take it to a performance shop to check timing and after i buy a throttle body i wanted to get it tuned.

first thing first i would scrap those aftermarket coils and put some stockers back on. I know its COP but i had a set of MSD coil packs right out of the box that wouldn't pull above 4500RPM. I put the stock ones back on and havent had any issues since. But like chris said i would also look into a crank position sensor or even a cam sensor.
