I know the 5.0 power steering is known for making the loud roar. :tongue3: But does anyone know of a remedy to quiet down the noise or stop it? lol

Take a suction gun, remove all the fluid from the reservoir, refill. Repeat every few days for a couple weeks. Works well.
If the noise persists, the pump vanes are worn. Then replacement pump will be needed.

Mine has never been loud (just turned 162K yesterday). But then again, I don't know for sure if the P/S pumps in the '96+ cars are the same "vane" type as the earlier cars.

Mine never whined. It leaked so I replaced it with a rebuilt one and this one doesnt whine either. If you run them low for a while then they tend to whine.

Mine has always whined in my 94 and even in my old 95 Vert. I figure i am just going to wait until i yank the motor out and replace it all then.

A majority of Ford pumps are notorious whiners. Ive just gotten used to it over the years. Luckily mine isnt all that bad. Like has been stated, air in the system can make a lovely groaning but can usually be resolved with the methods described. If it's not air, the only fix would be replacement. If its not terribly bad Id just leave it as is and put the money elsehwere. But thats just me.
