They are pretty common. Where are you getting yours? Does it have a canned tune for your car, or are you having a dyno tune done for your car? What other mods do you have?

There isn't honestly much to be gained from a tuner alone, even if you get a 93 octane tune. But if you have other mods, or plan major mods down the road, a tuner will be very useful.

Another advantage is you can read and clear check engine codes with a tuner.

Another benefit is if you have an automatic car. A tuner can adjust the shift firmness so you get a quicker and harsher shift in adition to adjustable shift points.

This is true. But it's not a good way to do it. Raising the pressure to do this is bad and will tear your automatic up. Shift kids or J-Mods are the way to go. < these will not harm it.

Also, make sure the device is unmarried before you give up the cash.

It was my understanding that the quicker the shift, the less heat/friction that the transmission will encounter thus actually prolonging trans life. But I'd definitely like to hear your reasoning; I could be misinformed?

I ran my old 98 gt auto for several years with a xcal 3 with the harshest shift it would adjust for and had no issues. Of course 2 years isn't all that long, or maybe I just got lucky.

This is true. What kills the stock trannies are them "hanging" between shifts like they do stock. So the quicker it shifts the better. But. Upping the pressure to do so is not the best way to do it. Over time the increased pressure will wear it out. The aftermarket shifts kits or a home made j mod increase shift points by increase flow with bigger passages not by forcing the trans to push more fluid through. In a quick run down. There are tons of tech articles all over the web about it. If I wasn't on my phone I'd link you some. But there are many stangs with a tuned up pressure auto that failed within 25-40k miles because of the increased pressure.

Good to know, thanks.

If you haven't already bought the tuner I would recommend the SCT over the Diablo. Far better tuner and a much better dealer network should you ever decide to modify enough to require a dyno tune!

U may have to get it unlocked . I have seen some used for sale cheap , but they say that they r locked and u have to call diablo and have them unlock it . Wich cost more money $ , I think even if it is u can still read OBD 2 codes and clear them

yea he told me it is unlocked and ready to be used. so i called up the guy who did it and he said it was and i told him if it was i should
be able to go in it and select a setting for my car. like 93 octan, 91 octan or even a stock setting. he then told me those u cant do that with and i said they show a video showing u how to do it. and that is coming right from there site. when i plug it in and hit performance tune it tells me my car isnt in the database. if i knew all this i wouldnt have bought it.

Some tuners do not have the canned tunes for all cars on it. What did it come out of that you know of? In case I missed you mention it.

Can you plug it in and take pictures of each screen that you are able to get to and upload them? I generally use SCT, but I do know some tuners will keep the old VIN# in until a new car is put on the tune. My SCT does it when I flash my GT back to stock form and switch it to my Cobra for testing.

am calling the company today to see what is goin on with it. hopefully they will get it to work for me and it wont cost me anything..
i did notice and i think i said it before his vin# is still showing on it but the stupid thing is if that is the case it will be hard for someone else to use it for there car when they buy it. he told me it has been cleared and ready for use in another car.
