Background
I don't have the car yet but I am doing this build thread now as a way to organize my ideas and give me some direction, as well as serve as my build thread once I start.
After getting a SUV that I can daily and beat the piss out of I decided it's time to invest in a project I can work on because I realize I need a mustang at all times. It took me little time to decide on the project I wanted. Take Fords lightest Mustang and drop their baddest motor in it (my opinion), to have my dream notch.
For some reason I've always had a thing for Notchbacks. Maybe it's the simplicity of the car, and my less is more attitude when it comes to cars.
Now finding the perfect notch could be a problem. I would love a Calypso Notch but if you find one in good condition they are close to 10k. Realizing this was unlikely I decided to just search for a Notch with as little rust as possible to save on body work. I wouldn't mind a 2.3 cause the motor will eventually get pulled. However a 5.0 would be a lot more fun to drive till then.
The perfect scenario would be to find a wrecked 03 and buy the whole car. So I can do a 5 lug swap, trade the IRS for a built rear. Use the interior, ect.
Vision
I want this car to be an all around driving machine. Mustangs are as capable in the twisties as they are in a straight line, which is one of the reasons I am so fond of them.
So my friend is an awesome at doing renderings so I am going to have him draw it up. I will try to explain here though.
For the paint I think I want to go with a flat black. I just think it it would look absolutely mean. Now I don't want Welds or any drag wheels since I rarely hit the track. I also don't want a common wheel everyone has so I decided on CCW LM20s. Yes, I know, try and contain yourself.
If I do get a full wrecked Cobra the interior will be swapped over. The front seats atleast, not sure if I want to do a rear seat delete or not. I have some friends who are good at fiberglassing so I would love to have the Cobra cluster molded in somehow.
To get the proper stance the car will be sitting on coilovers. I'm going coilovers because the car will see more spirited road driving then a straight line, and it will help me achieve the desired stance. To offest the weight I will go with some type of tubular K-Member (which I think I need anyway for the swap).
I am still researching so bare with me as I bring this dream to life. This thread will be highly documented and updated with any little thing I do to the car.
I know this is just text but hopefully in the next month I can find the right notch and begin this build. Stay tuned. Also any ideas you may have are hugely welcome. My dream is by whenever the car is done it is worthy to be a cover car.
