Hey guys i was putting a cam in my PI heads, so i just removed the 2 girdles, pulled the old cam out, but when i went to put the new one in....it didnt fit right. The cam sat unevenly on the rollers...i put it in and torqued the girdles to 96 inch lbs.

My question is...is there a certain way to put the new cam in? or can it go in any way i want?

Thanks in advance!

yes i put the correct cam on the correct side, i just wondered if the cam had to drop down in, in a certain spot so that the timing would be right?

did you take the followers out?

if you don't know what that is they look like little rocker arms..

i'm not 100% sure but you'll have to take those out to set the timing then "pop" them in.

if you dont take the followers out andthen out in your cams, it may skew your toque readings.

also yes, is you left the followers in, make sure the crank key is at 9 o' clock so that all the pistons are below deck. then torque down you cams. then rotate the cams so your timing marks line up.

the "correct" way to do this is to remove the followers, put your cams in and torque them. line up your timing marks and put your chains on. without tensioners. then put your follower on the valvestem, use a screwdriver to pry the followers on the lash adjusters by prying against the cam lobe.

and with your chains installed you can rotate the motor to get every lobe at its lowest side when you pop the followers on without worry of pry a valve into a piston.

Alright my heads are out of the car, so i just brought the head to work, took the girdles off, took the old cam out, and set the new cam in and torqued them down. I didnt remove the followers or anything. Should i take the cam back out and remove the followers, then put them back in? Or will it be alright the way i did it?
Thanks fo rthe help
