I used to race sprint karts competitively 5 years ago and am a pretty good driver. I've been looking at the American iron series thinking about building a car. Firstly I'd need the correct liscense tocompete. I'm just wondering if anyone here has pursued getting there's and how long it took. From what I read it can be done with say my car with proper safety equipment. Anybody here?

Working on NASA comp license (HPDE 3). It's not about how fast you get them, but how much experience you can get with all the local tracks. Most people petition for competition license after 50-60 days at the track. There are some who go to 3 day race school, and get license at the end with no experience at all, and end up being either the slowest guys, or wreck 2-3 races in.

Well I'm not going to claim i'm billy badass in a race car. I've won 30-40 sprint kart races and placed numerous 2nd, and 3rds in the national series. I'm a pretty good driver, feel fairly confident in my skills and handling the car. I don't plan on just running through it. Open track during the sprint kart season was where I learned. It's all an investment of your time.
