First off, I'm not sure if this belongs in this section.

Okay, so I dont want to make this a long story but here it goes....

My girl got me FRPP (blue) 9mm spark plug wires for christmas. So I waited abit and did some research. I know this is not a very hard (involved) mechanical swap, but i wanted to make sure i didnt mess anything up. So i know i needed to purchase spark plug wire dividers (holders) that would fit 9mm wires.

Got the wires (4 wires held each) from cj pony parts. They came 4 to a pack and oddly enough the packaging said "Made in Taiwan" I got 2 packages for around $14 shipped to the door. Figured I would get the 4 holders and could always use 1,2,3 etc you get the point.

I have the Chilton manual and looked over what they explained. They called for dielectric grease....i went and got a small container ( random fyi )

So the other day I hook up the air compressor, get my work lights and start on this little project.... All went well. The number 4 wire was such a pain in the ass to get out and put back in. (sitting in the car, passenger side, number 4 is all the way towards the back of the engine) Its a very simple swap, gets repetitive and takes time. I chose not to uninstall my strut tower brace and work around it. Took me some time and I wanted to get everything right. As of now the engine still needs a good cleaning. The wire holders need to be repositioned and i may even get some small blue zip ties so i can fasten it to the alternator bracket like the factory clips....

Here is a before photo

and an after photo

Now your asking where are the questions and what happened.....

(1) Well First I have a question, working on the (from inside the car) left side of the engine (right side) in the pictures, there is a tube that runs across the engine from the valve cover... I have included a picture. This tub is held with a rubber hose. Im not explaining it correctly im sure. ...
Picture
(not my car)

anyways, this rubber hose is completely rotted and falling apart. I had it in my hands and it started to crumble. Im guessing thats the PCV???
What is the name of this hose? what is its job? and where can i get just the rubber part? Does anyone have them in a blue (im trying to do a blue theme under hood)

you can somewhat see this hose on my car in this picture....
(this is a before picture)

my second question (2) involves another hose on the opposite side head. When i was installing the spark plug wires, i removed the air inlet tube for additional room.

(again not my car)

The second hose is circled in that above picture. anyways it has a tube connected to it and is positioned in the head. When removing my air inlet this tube/wire was coming out of the valve cover(head cover) rather easily. I placed it back in there but it didnt seem to be secured by anything.

(2) What is that hose, what is its job, is it supposed to be easily removed and just "sit" and not fit snug etc...

The 2 locations i circled in the last picture are what I want to know about..
The rubber hose on the right is going to need to be replaced.... Im sure all of the hoses are on their way out as well. The car sits and doesnt see anything but the sun. in the garage till may and figure i should get stuff done now

sorry for the randomness, just wondering

that tube is indeed PCV. i replaced mine with fuel hose from autozone. im sure you can find blue hose somewhere.

It recirculates air back into the intake track to properly ventalate the crank case.
#2 is your PVC valve. it isnt held in by anything except a snug-fit. if it is not "snug" go to autozone and get a box of grommits. it needs a new gromit. it serves roughly the same purpose as the hose in #1. Positive Crankcase Ventalaion.

all parts can be bought from autozone:
$10.00 for 5 feet of fuel hose.
$5.00 for PCV valve (if you want a new one)
$0.99 for a new gromit, or $3.99 for a box of assorted sizes and shapes.

good luck!

PCV = Positive crankcase ventalation
PVC = Polyvinyl chloride, but in this case it happens to be a typo... :)

Is that a common problem for these cars. To have warped and rotted hoses etc?

Hoses are just rubber or plastic, over time they get brittle and or soft, this is normal seeing how the engine bay is subject to a lot of temp fluctuation

Also remember that these are over 10 years old
