Rear bushings

How hard are the bushings in the rear diff ears to change. the ones that the control arm attach to. What is the best way to change the upper control arms. i have some ford racing ones to put in cuz the aftermarket ones are to stiff and causing the rear to bind.

Those diff-side bushings are a BITCH. If you dont have a lift and an air chisel, you might want to pass on it. Seriously... I watched my friend who is a Ford Tech struggle with those things for 30 minutes trying to get the out.
Didn't help that they were all chewed up and mangled from all the years of racing in the car.... but either way its not a job I'd try in my garage. :nonono:

Upper arms aren't too bad, but if you are gonna do those bushings anyway, just pay somebody to do it all at the same time since its the same work.
Once its done though... you are gonna be amazed at how much better the car drives and corners.

Answered in your other thread, it's pretty easy with a drill or torch.

Or you can buy the MM removal tool that also helps you install it. Its only like 34 bucks and you can get them at stang suspension.

ok...your choice.
but just make sure to document what you had to do and how pissed you got while you were at it... hahaha
just know this, its not gonna be much fun to do while laying on your back.

using my air chisel it took me no time to get both sides out. Use your basic bearing tool to put them back in. Wasn't hard at all, i don't know why your friend had such a hard time.

It takes about twenty minutes a side, and a C clamp will put them back in. I mean, if you're under there with a rock and a stick, that'll suck for sure :hammer:

Sticky tires + racing track = mangled bushings

edit - BTW, mine had 160k + miles on them too.
Now its all quiet as a caddy back there.

lol mine has been in a wreck man, the rearend was jerked forward, and it screwed up one of the upper control arms and the bushing. But it's all good, I do know a new bushing makes a world of difference.

Well ill think about the bushings. How hard to just put new control arms in the rear uppers. I want to see if those alone will solve the problem

Just Buy the MM Tool.... Its supposed to make the install very Easy.... The tool help with both removal and instal of the bushings....

Control arms are easy, it's just a nut and bolt on each end.

a torch makes quick work of the bushing but it is a ROYAL BITCH with out one....never again.

When I had my rear end out and at a rear end shop, the guy wacked them out in 2 minutes tops. I was stressing the removal of the bushings before picking up my rear end. But after telling the guy at the gear shop, he said no problem, I can get those out for ya. He used maybe a 5 pound sledge that the head was perfectly square.

the tricky part is a) doing it under the car and b) keeping the sleeves in tact in the ears.

Doing it with the rear end completely out of the car shouldn't be a problem.

Starter of this thread never said HOW he was planning to do it, so I offered info in case he was planning on doing it on his back in his garage with average tools.

Both times I've done it with the axles out of the car....I think I'll ALWAYS do it like that. I wouldn't want to fight those bitches under the car. Even with a torch, you gotta be careful b/c you can very easily burn through the sleeve.
