Will the Explorer rear ends fit the SN95 Mustangs?

yeah, but you will need to change a few things. explorers got a different parking brake set up than the mustangs. they have the internal drum style parking brake, ours is integrated with the caliper.

Reason I am asking, I think I have a wheel bearing going out. I was thinking if the Explorer rear will work, I can get one from a junkyard with traction lock and 4.10 gears already for 100 bucks. Put it in and start rebuilding the one in my car now.

it will work, you will need to swap the brake setup tho. remove the axles, remove the brackets, swap them over, and ur set.

It can be done... but there is pro's and con's.

Pro's:

cheap.
you get 31 spline axels instead of the 28 splines

con's:
you have to convert the brake setup.
you have to find some way to get the control arms to bolt up.

so since they are 31 splines would it be wise to find an explorer rear and swap the internals into our stangs?

o, forgot about that. i was used to the UCA and LCA setups. none of the explorers ever came w/o leaf springs, huh? (except the IRS explorers, but lets leave those out)

Why not just replace the wheel bearing? Seems like a lot less work.

Paul.

I am looking at down the road. If I have to pull the axle I might as well upgrade. I plan on racing the car so the rear end will need to be upgraded anyway. I just wasn't sure of the differences between the explorer rear versus the mustang. I figured if it was a straight swap, I could take my rear end out and rebuild it while using the explorer rearend. Seems the explorer rear end will be more trouble than its worth for a temporary deal.
