NOTE this isn't a discussion of what gears are better for what application

I am installing a set of FRPP 3.73s in my 8.8... I am buying them from americanmuscle.com. Question is, I want to rebuild my LSD while im at it. They sell a rebuild kit for $124.99 with carbon fiber discs, shims and everything else. you can view it here: http://www.americanmuscle.com/ford-88-traclok-kit.html Is this worth it? Are there any other suggestions on something better for a bit more money OR somewhere else i can get this kit for cheaper?

well, i went witha termi diff which has the cf disks, but its 31 spline, so you'd need to upgrade the axles. well worth the $240 shipped! When was the last time you heard a termi blow a diff?

There's still only 3 fibers on each side, I like to add a fiber to each clutch pack for a total of 8 fibers. Then you reshim the packs and your good for a long time.

yeah that setup is just fine for a street car. they can live under some slick abuse too, not for too long, but depending on how often you race it's worth the money.

What tires do you use at the strip and how much power do you make at the wheels?

Keep in mind the labor $$$ fpr refreshing your diff, compared to just buying a new one.

I paid 250 to have my FRPP 3.73 put in and have my 28 spline trac lock rebuilt with the carbon disc. You will be just fine. If your worried about it just get some Hardened 28 spline.

I have seen numerous 8.8 mustang rears with nothing more than 28 spline hardened axles run 10's all day. The stock differential can take a lot of abuse.
