this is a problem i have once the car has warmed up. when i cruise at a steady speed at around 2500- 3500 rpms, everything is fine; my temp stays at center and my oil pressure stays a little above center, but when i accelerate hard in any gear, my oil pressure rises above the high mark and my temperature goes way up, but then when i let off the gas, things go back to normal. what is the problem? i have the kobalt air compressor filter for my pcv system, and i just puit in new oil and a new filter, but my problem is still there. anyone know anything about this?

I have had a similar problem , i belive its under drive pulleys? do u have any ? my underdrive puelleys kills the power and stock gauges so it goes nuts and the gauges go all over the place, and the pulleys are killing the temp of the car so i need to take off the pulleys and put a new radiator on with my new tstat and the car should run better :thumb: try what im doing it should work

It makes perfect sense, alot of times people dont have problems with under drive pulleys, but I have the same problem as u , and I have bbk pulleys aswell , people with same problem had them, and soon as they took them off they had no problems, the reason for that.

IT'S cause the pulleys dont allow the alternator to spin enough which cause ur water pump, alternator, ac , cooling of the car not to run right. SIGNS OF THE PROBLEM , gauges going "crazy" , ( oil pressure, temp gauge) speedo gauges and lights go crazy and dim, battery doesnt get enough charge from the alternator, so car is hard to start battery light lights up, u asked, so i figured i would let u kno, each thing i replace the problem goes away, so take my advice, 1st i did a new thermastat it got better, new battery got better and new alternator, now a new radiator, and a guy who checked my car said deff put the stock pulleys on, i might lose extra 5hp but the car will run alot better, trust me the pulleys has alot to do with the problem, and along with other things :thumb:

My friend with a 96 gt had the same problem, and my friend who i bought my gt off out , his brother had a foxbody 5.0 and it was worse with his cause the alternators are shity in foxes, so pulleys killed it for power and the gauges and all them problems went wrong with it and overheated, my is doing it cause my electronic fan doesnt get enough power and all them problems / not enough power is caused by my pulleys, esp at idle the pulleys cause it not to be right at the right power, I had some 1 check the car out to to see if this is the cause, and 99% sure its part of the reason, along with few other things, problem is im replacing everything to get rid of it 100% lol

yeah im looking myself, i need to find some 1 with certain pulleys on here with no problems, it seems bbk kills the alternator, so all the accesories have issues , like the gauges / temp ,ect.. so im either in need of stock pulleys or some new pulleys, ill let u kno if i do it and if u do let me kno fi u beat me to it,I need to do all this so i can dyno my car again

this still doesnt make sense to me....the alternator puts out a set amount of power and is regulated by the voltage regulator, so whether the alternaotr spins fast or so should not determine anything, otherwise when i go really fast my amps would be off the chart and when i got slow nothing would get amps.

i wish some other people would chime in so we could get some more opinions.....

yeah, so its either u buy a higher amp alternator which u need to cut wires for it to work or swith your pulleys, switching pulleys is a cheap alternative , stock pulleys or after market are what $20-$100, vs a new higher amp alt is like $300+ , I mean it could be many things, im just saying thats such a cheap simple thing ,doesnt hurt to try it, has it been doing it since u did ur pulleys? thats ur answer , and ive seen several posts by u and other and few of the similar from u and myself a while ago, and has come down to many things, but the 2 things has been alternators and or pulleys , i noticed a big diff when i put in the new alternator, now im deff putting the stock pulleys back on

goodluck let me kno man, and if any 1 else could chime in

#1. Get out your volt/ohm meter and go to work.

You alternator was designed to run being turned with a specific sized pulley and it is engineered to work that way. When you replace the pulley with a different size it changes how the alternator is run from the way it was originally engineered to run.

You could also just get rid of the Alt. underdrive. That will help. The waterpump pulley isn't great for your car either but it should be fine. Best route: High performance waterpump (Meziere Electric), Underdrive crank, STOCK alt. pulley.

but i have the stock alternator pulley ^

Ok, I thought you said you were running U/D pullies. Even if the alt. pulley is stock and you are running other U/D pullies then the crank pulley will still cause your alternator to turn slower because it is smaller in diameter than the stock one.

Good luck,
Steve
