Rotating Weight Theory

I was wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this and how true they believe it really is.

Rotating weight on the drive train when removed can be calculated as so:
1lb of Rotating Weight = 10lbs of dead weight

If so then I have installed :
FRPP Alum. DS (5lbs maybe)
Smaller TQ Conv. (about 18lbs lighter)

So that means that means if true then the car feels like it has had around 230lbs of dead weight removed.

Ive also done alot more weight like Teksid block, removed braces, dog bone, and any little things (EGR, converters, etc.)

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or supported the theory.

i havent heard all that but i do have a frpp alum drive shaft and a rps flywheel, and it does let the revs go more freely. I got a little more than 10 extra rwhp on a dyno when it was NA. but removing unnecessary weight will make it faster anyway, im pretty sure if u remove 100 lbs you drop .1 seconds in the 1/4.

i dont know the exact math formula, but i would assume that the rotating mass (Driveshaft, FW, wheels, etc) would be more of a burden on the car than dead weight.

Once you get your 3,000 lb. car moving (ie: the frame, suspension, motor, tranny, interior) that now has momentom (sp?) whereas the motor STILL has to send power to move: the pistons, the rods, the crank, the flywheel, the clutch, the tranny, the driveshaft, the diffy, the axles, the wheels, (and anything else i may have forgot.) so the lighter and easier these parts are to move the better.

anyways, the real reason i posted a reply was to ask:
what is the purpose of the dog bone? why did ford put it there?

good point ^^^

**momentum =D

i dont wanna get into a potential/kinetic energy discussion... lol. once your car starts moving, the rotational mass is all that the motor has to keep moving...

hense the fact that RWD>AWD in drag racing... "i dont sping through third though..." well, neither do professional dragsters with slicks.... and they dont have to power the front wheels for no good reason past the 60 foot...

FWD = for groceries
AWD = for driving in a snow storm
RWD = for pwning the compitition on the drag strip.

I always thought it was:

RWD = for driving in a snow storm
RWD = for pwning the compitition on the drag strip.

I've never owned a car that didn't have a V8 and RWD. :) Only one of them didn't have a 5.0 motor too!
