What are the Pros and cons of crossdrilled/slotted/regular rotors?? That time is coming to do some maintanece and the brakes are 1st on the list.

Depends on your application as stated in many threads all over the internet... better cooling doesn't mean it's better for a DD. If I was going to be doing multiple laps around Laguna Seca or something then yea i'd get some slotted rotors, maybe even some cross drilled/slotted rotors paired with a good pad, but for something that wont see anything more than some stop and go traffic and maybe a drag strip i'd just stick with solids.

If you're looking for style that's all up to you but IMO cross-drilled/slotted looks retarded

I dont know all the pro's and con's off the top my head but from my understanding either solid or slotted is the way to go for all around braking performance along with a decent pad

The slotted are plenty for the street but the cross drilled tend to crack from a hole out to the outboard edge in various spots.

I've been running solid rotors my whole life. They have the longest life and they also cost way less than slotted, dimpled, or cross drilled alternatives. For street driving it really does not matter what you are running. Some people will say that crossdrilling will give you better cooling and stuff like that, and perhaps it does (I have not seen any concrete evidence that it does), but the idea that you pay probably 3 times the cost, and the rotor lasts half as long really does not make any sense financially. Unless you really like the look of that fancy rotor, I would not suggest wasting your money

I've heard that too, I've also heard of people having trouble with cross drilled rotors cracking, I've heard slotted rotors will chew through pads faster and I've heard it's fun to walk on the moon.

i could tell a difference in stopping power on my car when i swapped to slotted, drilled rotors and fresh pads... i now have cobra stuff and yea its night and day difference.. i got dimpled and slotted with hawk pads and it cost about the same as regular stuff from local parts store, but i have a hook up from another site....

+2 to this... I have seen it in person. They DO crack over time and some abuse, but that depends a LOT on the quality of the drilling and material.

Whats crazy is that my bike runs a Drilled Rotors and you can run those things as hard as you can and they never crack. I guess that's a Factory OEM Drilled rotor vs a AM one, I dunno.

You can, but most places with a brake lathe prefer not too simply because it chews up the cutting bits, and it takes longer..
Normally on solid rotors, if I am resurfacing them, I will make one "fast" cut on the lathe, followed by one "slow" cut.. I resurfaced a pair of
cross drilled rotors off a buddies mustang, and I had to make 3 "slow" cuts just to make it even, and I had to change the cutting bits after each rotor..
Just stick with solids, or upgrade to 13" cobra brakes.. It is a night a day difference.
