Back of my mind I’m thinking about upgrading the stock brake components. Namely, the booster, bowl and proportioning valve.
What I don’t know is what components I would need and all the parameters to be aware of to get the right stuff for my car.
Anyone out there done did this?! And can shed some light?…

Not jumping into anything; just taking into consideration the parts are 31 yrs old + older technology etc etc

I swapped my MC when I installed my baer system but just because I figured it would be better to have their MC pushing the larger brakes. I also did the booster while I was in there, it is a royal PIA to get out/in as they must install it first before the motor.

Yea unless it's a mega passion project or a purpose built racer with a compelling budget, don't bother. It will consume money, but also lots of time. And it creates stress that crosses over into every other aspect of life. You have to be prepared for 'big' jobs.

If you're intent on doing it for whatever reason, consider swapping to hydroboost. LMR makes brand new hydroboost units (haven't tried them yet and honestly OEM units are still going to this day), and Baer of course makes the ReMaster which I've used for a few years now and it's been pretty good so far.

Keep in mind I've gone off the deep end with my car, so I'm not the best example to use for...let's just say 'practicality'.

I am not even sure why you would replace the valve, the boosters are known to rust and if you run your hand along the bottom will probably feel some but there isn't going to be much performance gained if any by replace the parts listed.

Thanks, everyone. Like I said, I’m not jumping into anything, it was just “an exploratory thought”. I sensed from the beginning of this thread that it likely wouldn’t make sense from a cost-benefit standpoint or have HUGE gains over the Cobra brakes. But I thought I’d ask the experts and those with familiarity with it.
I’m big into preventative maintenance so when I started thinking about major systems that should not be ignored, brakes came to mind. So I’ll keep the stock Cobra system that I have (with braided lines and Akebono pads) as it does do a pretty darn good job as is!

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate you all … Cheers!

if you have never changed the booster before, run your hand along the bottom by the firewall and see if you feel rust or anything that should not be there. That is where it starts and you can't see it from the top.

I swapped my vacuum boosted Cobra brake setup on my Fox over to Hydroboost using the Baer Remaster. Did hydroboost improve brake feel? I say so yes.

Was it worth what i spent on a car i cruise around on the street with? Not really. If i could go back I would have just left the Vacuum booster in and called it a day. Car stopped plenty good like that. If anything I was always tire limited.

It was kinda one of those things where I was redoing everything and figured it was a cool idea at the time.
