I just went through all of this, did you burp the radiator, if you didn't you will have to, Do yourself a favor buy a Lisle spill free funnel, summit sell them, also the matco tool truck has them, same funnel, its just red instead of yellow. Also make sure your radiator cap is good, buy a new stant 16lb. Also make sure the little air dam under the radiator is not broken or missing, we replaced this and it decreased the temp by 15 degrees, check for debris between the radiator and the AC Condensor., IF you turboed of supercharged this engine you will have to go with a 3 core radiator and dual fans. This helped my sons 347 stroker, Vortech Supercharged

1. Make sure all the air is out of the system. I recently did this on mine and forgot to "burp" system before driving it and the temp shot right up to around 220.

2. If you just recently put in the 180 Thermo make sure it was not put in backwards.

225* while running? Or idling?

If you have a fresh rebuilt motor, it's not uncommon that they run a little warmer. Specialy with a stock old cooling system. Using a little Watter Wetter really helps as well, on my E30 BMW my temp went down 20* after a bottle of that stuff. Too much antifreeze in the mixture will cause higher temps too.

just start it and take the radiator cap off, top it off and as the air bubbles leave the system the coolant level will drop, top it back off again and keep repeating this until the coolant level stops dropping.

I thought ya just started it up and then squeezed the upper radiator hose? Its the highest point of the system so if there is air it will be in there and feel it go out.

where does the air go if the system is closed? With the cap off the air bubbles come up through the radiator and out of the system.
