I am not jumping on a bandwagon that is bashing you in any way. Just offering insight to why we feel the way we do, at least us old farts.
You said only the huge white part is "gay", or lets say "undesireable". OK, 50% of the tail light sucks.....there is no saving grace for the rest of it once that much of it sucks.
I believe a big reason it is such a turn off is because the tail light lenses in a Mustang are such a profoundly strong feature of what makes a Mustang. To go that far into rice territory, or at least that different from the "flavor" of what a Mustang tail light is, is like going past "enhancement" into "defacing" territory. The Mustang had it's own uniquely designed tail light. It is very recognizeable in the dark, even without the car us old farts know what it is.
