Hey guys, im new to the fourm, great that i found it!! All very nice cars, ill post some pic of mine when shes all waxed up!!! its a 97 Auto laser GT

Quick question for you(s) with a tune. or anyone who can chime in

BBK Catted Mid Pipe Mac Exhaust 3:73 CAI, FRPP70mm TB, trick flow plenum, UD pullies

How much benefit will i gain from a tune. just trying to see if its worth it, or put shorty headers. .

Car runs great now, little high low at time when idling but not to bad, is it worth a SCT?

Thanks Guys look forward to sharing !!!

YA so i answered my own question with the magic of the SEARCH button.

General answer seems to be not worth it, waste of money.

Ok then

I dont know where you found that..or who said that but theyre 100% wrong.

A tune in an auto is HUGE!.

I gained .5 second in the 1/4 with my tune...the shift points/shift firmness Helps a lot.

Get a 93 octane tune and you will gain some power.

It is definately worth the money

shorty headers wont do shit..waste of money.

A tune, or more appropriately, a handheld flash tuner, is totally worth it, just for it's ability to read and clear trouble codes, not to mention the fact that you can make your car do goofy thing's if you feel like it, like only go 47 mph.

if you go to an sct dealer, he should be able to read all of your calibrations after a diagnosis, you will need a better tune expecially with the new TB on your car. you can measure your air to fuel, and get that car running the way it should rather than all those parts throwing the cars stock tune out of balance. a flash tuner will open the car up in my opinion.

47 MPH Sick My Mom Will Love That!!!!
HAHAHA!!!!

Makes sense that the factory tune is a little out of whack, there is alot more air going in,

Changing the shift point would be nice. . . 3rd shifts too late.

As for drivability, once a get a tune(which shouldn't be a difficult one) are there any issues with getting a retune? or is it pretty much set it and forget it?

I know the hand held can store a few tunes, but are there any problems that occur from switching?

:)

You can switch/tweak to your heart's desire with ahandheld.

I've had my car so effed up it wouldn't even run, and just reloaded my baseline and started over.

I keep on hearing that a tune on NPI cars are worthless. Does anyone have any proof that proves what I've heard wrong. Like dyno numbers or timeslips. I would appreciate it.

My car, with an offroad midpipe, catback, and PI intake dyno'd at 205 rwhp with a tune and a T45 that literally exploded on pull #2.

If you are looking for a gain for 20 rwhp to have bragging right's, that won't happen. If you want to know what it means when your check engine light comes on, and have a smoother, snappier car, then it's right up your alley.

xsoutherngun89lx gained .4's in the quarter mile with no other changes except a tune on his car.
