Side Exhaust Questions

Ive posted earlier about a situation with my side exhaust. The jist of what happened was basically my mechanic looked at my side exhaust while installing my suspension components and said that he couldnt install my MM RLCA's and Swaybars with the side exhaust installed the way it was. The side exhaust was Borla, and was done in the factory, however one of the dumb previous owners decided to remove the cats and replace the borla mufflers with flowmasters, but he welded everything wrong.

So I had my mechanic put the exhaust out of the rear for now until i can get it professionally put back out the sides. I still have the side exhaust rocker panels on the car with the holes for the exhaust tips exit (looks kinda funny with no exhaust coming out of it).

I am confused about what the best idea is for this situation. My exhaust is in working condition but it was put on in 97 and is pretty worn and rusted. Would it be a good idea to replace the entire exhaust? I will need a kit that will exit out of both sides, which i havent seen anywhere. Any ideas on this?

you could buy the borla mufflers that they use on the 99+ and have your guy weld them in place with some new flow tubes.

I love the tone of my exhaust right now, but I want it put back out the sides. I was just thinking that if I am going to have to have to pay for the exhaust to be put out the sides i should replace any thing that needs it at that time. Would a exhaust place be able to run the exhaust out of the sides without me purchasing a kit or anything? Would they just use pipes and weld them in? Im confused on if I would have to buy a side exhaust kit or something.

Right now its the Borla Exhaust kit, it has the X-pipe set up but the previous owner removed the cats and replaced the Borla Mufflers with Flowmasters.

Well first of all, the previous owner was a JACKASS :wall: Those side exhaust are perfect the way they are. You can take it to a muffler shop and they can do the tubing for you, the only thing would be money wise. It will depend on how much they would charge you to bend the tube to come out of the muffler and then bend it again to exit the side. But they can do it for sure :thumb: I had a similar problem with my catback, the guy welded everything together, so when I installed my LT's and x-pipe we had to almost re-do the entire exhaust form LT's to cat-back. See how much it would cost to do it and compare it to how much would it be to buy it :thumb:

Side Exhaust=loss of low end torque since your exhaust flow isn't going straight to the back of the car.

yeah, ive heard that there is a small loss in hp and tq. Mine had the Borla system though, and they were said to have the only side exhaust system that didnt lose any HP or TQ.

nothing worse than a hot day.
I liked mine, it was Roush, so it didn't do anything with the rear suspension.
it's in the way if you go sub frames though...

when you drive with window down, by a building or something, the exhaust is right in your ear! :crazy2:

Mine wasnt that bad really. I couldnt feel any heat from it or anything. But it was hilarious getting coffee at Mcdonalds or any other drive thru, my exhaust would bellow into their drive thru window.

I loved everything about mine, but if was put on incorrectly than it has to go until I can get it replaced right. As long as it sounds and looks just like it did before it was switched to the rear after this upcoming install I will be happy.
