There are 3 small knicks on the cam bearing and I can feel it with my finger nail. Can I use emory cloth to smooth it? There are also a few small pin size knicks on the cam lobes. Can a machine shop smooth out the lobes? Can I use emory cloth?

I tried taking some pics but the knicks do not show up well. On the cam bearing you can see it a little bit on the top right side and for the cam, the top of the third lobe you can see a little bit of the knicks

The cam bearings I wouldn't be concerned with. It's probably just from removing the cam, the wear looks normal.

But the cam wear looks weird. I've never seen a roller wear like that, usualy there is zero scarring whatsoever. Maybe someone else has seen this...

I bet a roller tip on those lifters either didn't get any oil or they stuck for some reason. Either way sucks. I'd consider buying another cam. They are to cheap. That and a set of lifters.

Really the cam looks bad? I thought that is normal wear on a cam. The cam is a Crane 2031 and I do not know how many miles are on it. I bought the car with 65k miles and not sure when the cam was installed. What cam should I get? I have a rebulit stock 302 and with Edelbrock performer heads, Cobra Intake and a Vortech S-trim.

So I should leave the cam bearing alone? And not sand it smooth?

The lifters probably got oil starvation because of the kinked oil pick up tube.

The cam looks fine to me to run. It's not going to have any problems once put back together. Especially without a kink in the pickup tube.

That's generally how the cams I pull out of engines look. And I've sold many sets without any issues. Hell, I've even installed some with some scratches worse than what you have and you couldn't tell the difference after a teardown later.

use emry cloth to clean everything up, check your rollers on the lifters as they might need replacing due to lack of oil..

My friend told me the cam looks bad and it should be replaced. To be safe I think I will buy a new cam

the cam doesn't look that bad to me but with the vortech and such you will be spinning that thing pretty fast so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a different one. i would also get new lifters regardless.

I'd change all the bearings instead.

The bearings are new, I'm guessing the cam bearing installer tool might of scratched up the bearing. The scratch has no sharp edges on it but I can feel it with my finger nail.

What cam should I get for my set up?

I notice on the cam bearing one oil hole on the bearing is open and the other one is closed. Should the other oil hole be open? Or is there just one oil hole opening?
