Smog "Gross polluter"

My buddy just smogged his 00 Blown GT. It failed twice in a row. After replacing his cats and fixing his tune he finally got the car to pass on the third try.
Unfortunately his car has been labled a "gross polluter" in California.
Will he be given a hard time every time he has to smog his car in the future??

Damn, he is f'd pretty damn hard now.....

Gross polluter can only be cleaned up by going to a smog ref..... this is why i pay someone under the table to pass me ever 2 years :boink:

gross polluter usually means that he will need to get a smog check every year instead of every year (not always the case, they might let him stick with the bi-yearly plan), and will be required to go to a "test only" center instead of the "test and repair" centers. really no big deal, he just has to make sure he can pass each time he goes.

My old car, my girlfriends car, and my buddies car all are gross polluters. Im sure there can be some kind of bad set back. However, the only thing that all those cars had to do was go to a test only station.

Where you been at 95CALI-5.0 seems like you have not posted in quite a while.

Thanks guys. I 'll pass along the information to my buddy. He's pretty bummed. I've been pretty busy the last two months because of the holidays. We should have a quick GTG for those of us in northern CA. Let's plan something for the spring!!

Ya man that would be really cool. I would be down for sure. Tell your buddy it could be worse, friend of mine failed like 10 times when he bought his before he used my stock midpipe haha.

Getting labeled a gross polluter is a definte pain in the ass. In Cali it means going to a smog-only station. For aftermarket mods, those guys tend to be WAY tighter than any other smog stations.

My friend got so frustrated with his '90 LX getting labeled as a gross polluter that he ended up making the car race only!

Its really not that bad. There are a couple states that are getting as bad.... Just gotta spend 30 min switching out the mid or just run cats.

I don't get inspected,and I run 2 cats anyway.I try to my LITTLE part to leave something left of the ozone for my kids.Seriously,
on a DD do cats REALLY rob that much power? I mean on a properly tuned car with a good PAIR of high flow cats (not 4 or 6) what are you losing....really?
