Do you really have to do anything to run off of e85? I know the new flexfuel cars can run on both gas and e85. But I've only seen one mustang(2003 Cobra aka Corn Snake) in 5.0 mustangs & super fords do it. Are there any advantages to running e85?

In the new 5.0 mag they do a test on a Mach 1 and from the looks of the stats they show i would just stick good ole' 91 octane

You need 20% more fuel at part throttle, 40% more at WOT and you need to be tuned for it. E85, unless you're going for the octane, it's a waist of time. I've built two mustangs for E85 and you can more easily run race gas on a flip tune. There's differences in summer blend and winter blend E85 and each need to be tuned in.

Here's a link for everything you need to know about E85 mustangs starting with the tuning aspect.

You basically need like 50% more fuel...so big injectors and probably dual pumps and I would only run it if it was readily available for like 2.00 a gallon and you run a blower, otherwise its a waste of time

yeah but instead of like 60lb injectors you'd need like 80lb bigger fuel lines, etc

it's not worth it imo either stick with 91/93 and have race fuel on a race tune

Plus another thing to think about is what is the price of e85 in your area? if its cheap as hell, it may be worth it in the long run. (but you would need to look at the numbers) If its anywhere near the price of regular gas its not nearly worth it because you get less MPG.

Thats what i would base in on mostly.
If i lived in the midwest or somewhere it was produced local and sold for $1.25 a gallon then i'd convert but i don't even think i can get E85 in NJ. Cost and availability would be my concerns.

E85 is a HOAX. It only works better on engines designed to use e85. With our cars you want to go with as little ethenol as you can.

Well I live in Kansas sooo....it is readily available. I would have too look at the prices around here, and in the long run would converting even be worth it.

Me too (Lawrence) and i see the E85 prices all the time and shake my head that i can't run it.. I believe that you have to run a different
fuel tank (some reason a plastic tank rings a bell), and run bigger fuel lines all the way to the engine, dual fuel pumps, and
big injectors. The cost of converting your car to E85 is not going to offset the cost of swapping it over.. like previously mentioned,
The only good thing about E85 is the Octane rating, but only high horsepower cars need the extra points.. IMO just stick to the 91
available everywhere (my preference is BP).

You guys aren't taking into account the amount of fuel that you'll be going through. Yes, a car will make almost 15-20% more power because of it BUT you'll need 20% more fuel for daily driving and 40% more at WOT. What that comes down to is a MINIMUM of 20%, and up to 50% drop in fuel economy and the lower price does not make up for the lower MPG. In Laymans term, The gas is cheaper but you'll spend more time at the pump.

The difference between Summer and winter E85 is huge. You'll need to 100% empty the tank of one before you can switch to the other. And although you say it's readily available in your area, what about outside your 20mile area? Ever go on road trips? I've built and tuned these cars and it's not worth it for a DD.

(And no, you can't mix with regular gas.)
