I was just parking my car and pulled my e brake lever up and it like popped when it got to the top and now it goes up and down hella easy and doesnt work. If i pull it up all the way the e brake light comes on but my car will still roll like its not engaged, did i brake the cable or something?

So i was looking today and i noticed that where the cable attaches to the lever in the car there is about an inch of cable that is all frayed apart so im guessign it broke right about there. I didnt take the console out so i couldnt see the other part of the cable. But that cable only runs to the bracket ender the car with the two cables right? So does anyone know how to replace this cable and where i can get one from?

NO. This is likely NOT your e-brake light. This is probably a braking system emergency/warning light, which happens to use the same light on the dash as your e-brake light. You need to get this checked out by a shop ASAP, as it could potentially be dangerous.

I'm not trying to be condescending when I say; you really should familiarize yourself with your vehicles owners manual. I'm a Mechanical Engineer with a strong automotive background, but I still read the owners manual of every car I buy mainly to familiarize myself with the warning lights and safety features.

Then again...I'm an anal retentive geek.

In my windstar the ebrake light will come on as a low brake fluid warning.

hmmm so it uses the exact same symbol as the E brake, it doesnt happen very often, would this appear as a code if i ran the codes because i hate spending money on brakes seems so counter productive

i am almost positive that you just broke the cable, i broke one on my grand prix doing some E brake drifting, i had a dealer fix it i dont remember exactly but i think it was pretty cheap. Or you could just leave it in gear when you park and forget about the E brake :thumb:

Yeah i know the cable is broken i pulled out the center console today and it is snapped about and inch or so out from the handle, so i have been parking in gear for the past few days but i live on a hill so i am always nervous about not having a e brake now.
