yep. another thread about how i have problems with my car.. im typing this not even 30 seconds after getting into my front door at my house house.

just got in from gettin ice cream with the girlfriend and i get out of my car and a VERY POWERFUL smell is coming from my car. not gas, not oil. i dont know what it is. smells like a wood fire. but very overwhelming smell. i smelt it all day today. every time i came to a stop light or stop sign, i could smell it. i wish i could say more but i dont know what to say besides the fact that something smells very wrong.

any body have ANY idea??

i think it may be both of those... because when im just driving down the road, i can HEAR (without the brakes applied) something that sounds like metal rubbing against each other. (sorta like when you apply the brakes with bad pads, it sounds like metal to metal rubbing..)

and also, when i apply the brakes, they are starting to do that so i think i need some new pads.

anyways i was thinkin it may be the clutch but it doesn't really smell like a burning clutch. would a clutch rubbing continuously smell the same as when you burn the clutch a for just a moment? say goin up a steep incline or somethin or whenever you just ride the clutch for a second?

well if its your clutch its because its slipping (burning) so it would smell the same as if you have ever burnt your clutch before yes. brakes smell very much the same as well. wood smell I have no idea?!

good way to test the clutch is just to get on it hard, shift down if your RPMs rev up but you dont accelerate too well your clutch is slipping.

sorry Sometimes electrical smells like wood burning. Check your fuses maybe a wire burned somewere.

hmm i remember this happening to my sisters car.. hopefully it may be something that easy. i remember i ran over a bag yesterday and never saw it come back out. ill go out and check to see if its still up under there.

and hopefully the metal to metal sound is my brakes and nothing in my tranny/clutch..

i would say replace your brakes and see what happens from there if you hear metal to metal its time anyways no need to put it off

lol my buddy had a 91GT and we just finished installing side exhaust at our high school and went for a rip, on the way back we went thru McDicks drivethru and somthing smelt horrid...really bad, didnt really bother with looking into it for a few days since we thought it was just the new exhaust....

tossed it up on the lift....and a squirrel was pinned against the exhaust lol uke:
