I don't drive a 2v, but my issue is the same regardless. My speedo stopped working and my suspision was the speedo gear. I went ahead and checked it out this morning, and my suspisions were comfirmed. The gear is missing half the teeth. One question is where do those teeth go...is there some way I need to clean them out. Secon and main question is, How do I seperate the gear from the VSS? Thanks guys.

Is it the stock speedo gear? I've seen some of the aftermarket ones get chewed up quickly due to their non oem quality.

There is a little clip near the VSS on the gear. Pry on the tab and clip comes out, gear slips off.

I have heard from several sources that the 23 teeth speedo gears get chewed up. FORD offered speedo drive gears in 6,7 and 8 teeth. The speedo gears are offered in 16,18,19,20,21and 23 teeth. They are all color coded. By measuring the OD of your tire and knowing your gears you can figure out which set to use. Go to hanlonmotorsports.com/T5speedo put in the info get your set. I took out my drive gear from the tranny and swapped to a 7tooth and a 20tooth speedo to get mine right. Im running 373 with 255 45-17.
