Can anyone clarify this issue? Recently picked up a 98 mustang and the speedometer doesn't work. I'm reading it could be the VSS or the gears in the cluster itself.
Are there gears for the speedometer separate from the odometer (mileage/trip)? Or are they 1 unit?
My mileage and trip works, no problem. Only the speedometer (showing MPH/KPH) goes crazy. It swings around the peg and bounces around basically.
Need to figure out if it's in the cluster or the VSS. If it's in the cluster, does the speedometer have its own gears?
Rockauto shows that there are speedometer gears that are a bit different than odometer but I can't find much about someone who had this issue. I'm only reading mostly about odometer problems, not speedometer.
