expensive way is a speed cal. cheap way 23 tooth plastic gear that goes on the end of the speed sensor. speed cal is more accurate. plastic gear will wear out

the stealership dude said the 23 tooth doesn't mesh perfectly with the gear in the tranny. and they usually only last 20-30 thousand miles. i think i have about 20k on mine so i'll be finding out soon.

And I've never had any problems with mine, except for install. And that was the previous owners fault, not the speedcals.

To get it perfect you also gotta change the plastic gear in the tranny as well as the speedo cable to make it 100% correct, but every place around me charges about a grand to drop the tranny and take it appart to install the other plastic gear.

Noob question but how would the SpeedCal work on the '94/'95 5.0s?? I thought they were only for the '96-'98 4.6 computer controlled 'Stangs??

I have never had any issues with the speedcal. It was pretty easy to install and the calculator they have up really makes it easy to figure out what you need to set it at.

I installed mine with the speedcal a month ago and love it. It's about 95%-ish accurate. Its more accurate than the 23 tooth gear, that is a perfect correction for 3.55s. Just drop the money on the speedcal, it's worth it.

i have the same problems with my 4.10s... we have different trannys (T5 vs T45) but i know for a fact (very smart and helpful ford racing sales rep helped me out) and with 16 inch wheels (stock on my car) and 4.10s ford does not make a speedo gear combo (tranny included) that will work for my car...

speed cal is my only option with 4.10s in a T45... dont know about 3.73s in a T5, but im assuming the same thing because the highest speedo gear i could find was for 3.55s from steeda. (steeda has for sale a speedo gear for 3.55s, 3.73s, and 4.10s, but they are all the same part number)

Speedcal is more accurate and lasts longer. Knowing how much attention my car gets from the po-po, I wanted my speedo to be as accurate as possible.

please explain to me how the speedcal is more accurate than swapping both gears in the system...

and dont even give me the bullshit of (well, you dont know that your gear combo is 100% accurate... because how do YOU know that the gear set thats in your tranny right now is 100% accurate.

I'd rather pull my tailshaft off and swap the drive gear, than hack my wiring harness and put the speedcal in

If your gonna go through that effort then I guess its no better but speed cal is easier than pulling apart the rear of the tranny for me atleast. You can also adjust speed cal if you have different rear tires that are slightly taller/shorter than stock.

What he said. Most of us dont feel like taking apart our tranny's tailcone just to swap out the shaft for the speedo gear. Is the speedo gear more accurate when swapped properly? Of course! Is it more accurate when you just throw a 23 tooth in and leave stock other gear? No. We have these stupid radar things at some schools zones that tell you your speed and will tell you to slow down. I was going like 40kph(speedometer) and the thing said I was going 38kph :p.
