Split Port vs SC Swap

I'm pretty much finished with the exterior stuff with my car, and I'd like to add a little more pep next summer. I don't want to V8 swap it. I wanna do something a little different. From what I've found in my research, I only have a few options. I'm wondering whether it would be more cost effective/worth the money for the power to drop a full SC motor in or swap in split port heads on my car with a windsor intake with boost down the road. I know i eventually want boost, so I guess the question is should I get a stock boosted motor or build up my current engine. I know next to nothing about the SC engines. Is there anything I can do to squeeze more power out of the SC motor?

SC Swap would be cool. But you wanna put a 15+ year old motor in your car? Can you put a blower on your 3.8 as is? I know Vortech makes a kit for 94-95 5.0s that works with a stock motor.

Yeah I could, but an engine would be a lot cheaper than 3-4 grand for a blower

I hear ya, but you have no idea how reliable the motor will be ya know? I'm in the same boat, trying to figure out what I wanna do. Trickflow top end kit and full bolt ons sounds good, 300+rwhp is my goal N/A. Any other motors that could be swapped in? What about a LS motor?

i don't wanna do anything crazy like that. if i had the money, i'd just say fugg it and drop a coyote or termi motor in there.

I don't know much about the SC setup, but I think that may be the best option for you.

1. You can rebuild, improve and save money while you drive your mustang. If you build your current engine you'll have down time.
2. That supercharger is build for a 3.8, not funky plates and what not.
3. If you build your current 3.8 I think you should bore it out and everything like monkey did while you're at it. More $$ and down time.

But like I said I don't know too much about the SC.

yeah the down time is a big issue for me since this is my only car. the thought of swapping a motor is kind of scary to me aswell lol

I say split port swap it. I wouldn't even port the heads or do a cam yet. Then just put a vortech or procharger on at some point. There is 270-310rwhp right there. With room to grow if you up the boost or build the motor more in the future

think that will be sufficient power for me? and do you know how much power the stock 3.8 block can handle?

Yes I think it'd be enough for you. it would be doubling your power. Not to mention the m90/sc won't make that power without a ton of work to it. the Super coupe will make a ton of torque, but quite a bit of work just to hit 300rwhp. when to get to the same mark all you would need would be splitport heads and a vortech/procharger. and im talking stock splitport parts, no porting, no cam. just exhaust, injectors, pump, and tune.

and when the power gets boring for you, you can still drop a cam in it with the stock heads for a little power and still be in the safe zone.

when you're ready, get some forged rods and pistons and up the boost.

The stock rods and pistons are good for around 350hp at the wheels.

id do the blower. its a lot more "flash" -- which you'd like when you pop that sexiii hood!
idk man, that windsor intake is pretty damn flashy!

alright man, thanks a whole lot. that route seems to make the most sense for the money
