I was thinking about getting Stage 2 cams when I put my engine together. It'll be a stock bottom end with P&P PI heads and bolt ons. Would it be a waste to get the Stage 2 cams? I hear they don't give anything at low end but rev real high (which is not so good for a stock bottom end). Any driveability concerns with Stage 2 cams? The car is going to by my DD. If anyone has Stage 2 cams, let me know what you think of them... VT Stage 1 N/A Cams $535.50 -.540/.550 lift, 224/226 .050" duration -noticeable idle 2500-5500 RPM -25-30 wheel horse expected gains VT Stage 2 N/A Cams $535.50 -.560/.575 lift, 225/235 .050" duration - perfect for ported heads street/strip -agressive idle 3000-6500 RPM -30-35 wheel horse expected gains
The stage 1's are very good for a street driven car but if you are getting P&P'd heads and most likely upgraded springs then i'd go with the stage 2 just for future upgrades you may do such as intake or high compression built shortblock. The driveability won't be that much different with the stage 2 as they really are not that aggressive...just make sure you get a good dyno tune after and your car will run great.
Is there a huge peak HP/TQ difference between stages I and II? Also, what's the power curve difference?
Stage 2 all the way bro. Gears make up for alot of the bottom end. With P&P heads you'll defiantly will kick yourself in the shin for not getting stage 2's
Nice. I think I'll go for the Stage 2's. I can always rebuild my bottom end and have it forged for the juice next year. :santa_cool:
