I just found some garage space so now I can begin, but I have one question before I begin that I hope someone who has done the 96-98 4v swap will be able to answer. Can I leave the underdash harness of my 98 gt auto and utilize the cobra engine, computer, engine harness, column, gauges? Or will i need to swap the underdash harness as well? I'm not proficient with wiring diagrams :BangHead:
thanks in advance for your info.

*edit: Cobra t45 is being used

since you would technically be doing a auto to t45 swap on top of the cobra swap I think you will need a manual gt computer
(dont get a cobra computer) and swap everything over and tune it for the 24# injectors and IMRC but you might as well
delete the IMRC while your changing everything

yes delete the irmc! it will be well worth your time to do it while the engine is out! and I know it can get expensive but I recommend doing new cam cover gaskets before you drop the engine in, if they show any sign of leaking at all! you don't wanna do this once the engine is installed! take it from someone who did a c.o.p. swap on his 4v it is not fun taking these covers on and off.

Maybe I should've been more clear. I have my wrecked 96 cobra sitting next to a 98 auto gt motor/trans gutted car with a complete harness. The cobra runs still, its complete. I plan to use my cobra engine harness and computer, gauges, column.

My question is. Do I need to replace the gt under dash harness the cobra under dash harness?

Dont use the cobra computer as you will have to change out the ignition and whole bunch of other crap just use the gt computer and tune it

I have all that in my cobra column though? why cant I swap that as well? Im not trying to be a pain or a smartass, but Im still confused. lol
whats the problem with swapping everything from my cobra into the 98? It would be just like the 96 cobra down to the ignition cylinder in the column. Why would i use a gt computer? Sorry for hounding you with questions, this is my first efi stang.

Why would that be easiest? He would have to get a tune afterwards..

And you shouldn't need to replace the entire column, you can swap the ignition if you want instead.

Friend of mine did the tune from a sct tuner himself and had no problems

Perfect, thanks for the help. Is the ignition swap fairly simple?

pulling the ignition cylinder and PATS rings can be done in under 15 minutes, the hardest part is taking off the plastic column covers :)

once you've got the covers off, turn the key to run, find the pin, push it in with a punch or thin screw, and the key + cylinder will slide out, unplug it, then unbolt and unplug the PATS ring...done

swap into the other car and turn the key back to off to lock it in place.

Yeah, but it's also an added cost. and unless your friend bought the SCTracer packaage, you can't do diddly squat with them.

and the manual says pull the cylinder then the cover, do i have to pull the cover first because of PATS or is the manual right?
