OK so the patient: 1995 Mustang GT. Stock suspension.
problem:
Steering makes noise. Upon further examination i found the stem that comes down from the column is loose. The rubber boot cover is not seated in the firewall. I tried loosening the first "Torx" bolt toward the inside of the car where the gold colored stem slides into the yoke but it doesn't move at all......
I'm not sure what to do here, or how to fix it.
Here's a pic of what i'm talking about. Any ideas???? :BangHead:

I would search for a diagram showing how all thos parts go/fit together or get a haynes manual, then I would loosen the joint from behind the steering wheel and then from the rack and then pull out the steering shaft. Be careful when u unbolt it from the back of the steering wheel becasue there is a spring there. Check all the parts for wear and replace as necessary. I have a 98 and there isnt torx bolts holding any of the parts together I think its a 10 millimeter bolt on both connections behind the steering wheel and at the steering rack. You might also have to replace that plate that attaches to the firewall, I believe the boot is supposed to be attached to that.
