Bare with me, I'm no expert with stereos.

I have a 1998 GT that I bought a few months ago. The guy had a after market head unit and subs in the back (neither did I want for this project) so in negotiation for the price I told him to keep the subs and put the stock head unit in. Obviously it came with the mach sound system, but even with the the bass all the way up im getting slim to no bass at all. After further inspection, I found that the speakers in the back are after market Pioneers.

My question is where do I start in trying to find the problem to just get the stock setup working properly?
LikeI said Im probably missing something stupid, I have replaced a head unit once in my last mustang but thats where my knowledge stops!

Thanks guys I appreciate it!

If they are aftermarket make sure they are wired in the correct phase.. If the back are 180 out ( wired backwards very easy to do) then the bass from the front will cancel the bass from the rear end result in a flat tone.. To check the phase the easy way set your fader all the way to rear and add some volume and bass to it and if it sounds ok or it has a richer sound to it, start to fade to the front slowly and if the bass tone flattens out the the rears are out of phase, now if the rears are flat when faded all the way rear then one speaker may be out of phase.. Get the rears to sound good and then fade to the front as I stated then if it flattens out at least you know both rears are out of phase at the same time.. Long story short make sure the rears are wired properly separately, then fade to front to make sure the rears as a whole are then wired right.. I'm 99% sure this is your issue..
