94/95 5.0 stock balancer's are prone to failure spend the $$ on a quality balancer. It doesn't have to be SFI cert either since you are stock. Being a critical component I would spend $$ on quality not what's the cheapest.

I got A sfi cert. Balancer from summit think it was bout 150$ or so it is way way heavier than stock one.... I think adding rotating weight is gonna cost a lil hp .... What u r really buying is peace of mind that your balancer won't fail and f up your motor... I did have a clearance issue with it tho can't really remember what it was hitting but it was a easy fix with a lil grinding

Depending on the brand you'll sometimes need a spacer to clear the timing cover.

I know some people have had luck with them just slipping out fairly easy, I wasn't so lucky. When I did it I took off the Radiator and fan shroud, hit the bolt holding the balancer with an impact gun and used a special HB puller to yank it out. Sometimes you can use a ratchet to take out the bolt but it can be hard to stop the engine from spinning especially since you don't want it rotating backwards.

Whoa... that sounds a little scary. Don't want to harm the car. Don't you have to like... I don't know, set the timing again after you change the balancer? How are you supposed to keep it from spinning the engine?

No the timing doesn't change. And that's why I say it's easier to get the bolt off with an impact gun instead of by hand

But to the OP, it sounds like you might be wanting to modify your car from stock some day. So maybe you want a better balancer than stock. Too bad they're so dang expensive heh
