Regardless of what anyone says, I want to supercharge my 95 GT. There's a few questions I have. I was going to put a set of GT40 heads on that were freshly bored and redone, and really want to throw a small charger on it and run about 4PSI. YES I know there's better ways of gaining power, but I really am obsessed with superchargers lol. My car does have 130k, do you think it could handle it? I don't plan on driving it hard, maybe racing it a couple times a month and entering boost every now and again. Also what would need upgrading with a supercharger? Fuel injectors, fuel pump, throttle body and what else is suggested?

Can you get a blower that makes so little boost? 5 PSI is the lowest I have heard, and that's as far as I would go a stock bottom end with have forged internals...

miles are one thing but ring seal and the condition of the valve springs are another. with low boost it should be fine and a entry level kit will allow you to go buy upgrading parts later.

if you are concerned perform a leak down test and you will know what condition the rings are in.

My 95 has 140K on it and I'm running an 11 PSI Kenne Bell with absolutely no problems. Well had a bit of an incident with a freeze plug blowing out, and my timing chain gasket canning out "AGAIN" but the engine itself is as strong as ever, so don't be afraid of boost. But 10-12 psi is all I'd personally go on a stock bottom end.

EDIT :angel4:

So, I can throw one of those KB blowers from their site for the SN95 mustangs for like 6lbs of boost on the $700 short block from LMR wit Cast pistons and make it out alive with no blown up internals? I have been reading on their site and they don't mention about it, but would 6lbs of boost destroy cast pistons? The car is a daily that I RARELY get on it and it sees the strip for about 20-30 passes a year...

Also, look for a used Kenne Bell with low miles, they're light years ahead of centrifugal superchargers as far as performance goes, they hit instant full boost and stay there, they don't have to spool up like centrifugal superchargers do.

light years? sure if you want instant heat and hotter inlet temps :)

show me one KB equipped car driving to a track non intercooled on pump gas and going more then 140 mph in the quarter mile. won't happen but is very frequent with cent cars

I get instant boost as soon as I go wot, nothing to spool and its making 24 lbs with no sweat and plently left

If you have solid bottom end then you can even throw a Supercharger on a 180k car. It's not about Mileage. It's about the health of the motor.

did you tune it or install a kit on a 100% stock car like they are designed?

i ran a completely stock bottom end with a h/c/i and 24# injectors and a vortech with the 3.33 pulley pushing like 10# with over 120k miles. no problems. I blew a head gasket once when i over reved it, but that's it and it was my own fault.

do a leak down test to check the health of the engine then strap that bad boy on there if it checks out. a vortech kit comes with everything you need. Just get a good tune on there and have fun. there is nothing wrong with supercharging the car if you have a good tune on there to handle it. yes things could go wrong like blowing a headgasket but so what, its like $150 for the new gaskets and a case of beer and a days worth of labor.

my stock 93 shortblock took ~17 lbs from 60,000 till it had 140,000 on when the motor was pulled. had a little bit of blowby but that is to be expected with cast rings and that much of a beating.

Wow, sorry guys, I reread my last post and what like what was I on, like serriously I did, must of had one of those high on life moments. Yes, Kenne Bells do get a little heat soaked and that is a major draw back of their design, but the newer Kenne Bell units, along with intercoolers allow you to get around that. I prefer KB over the other brands simply because of the ease of install and the reliability of the unit, doesn't rquire rebuilds and maintenance nearly as often as others do, and yes I had a Vortech before the KB. Also, as far as the heat soaking goes, for a car to be hitting 140 at a track, they're either doing some serrious racing, or have one hell of a motor. In any since, I'm talking about the normal car that may never to rarely see a track, if you're doing that kind of racing, get a turbo, plain and simple.

your talking about a 5.0 here there are no intercooler kits made for that blower since there is no vacancy in the lifter valley as there is on a modular motor. kb has some of the worst tech / customer service from what you read on forums.

i dont know what you had to supposedly do to your vortech but i have owned 4 of them and put well over 100,000 miles on one and didn't have to do anything to it at all.
i was talking about my car and it is a normal car. gets 25+ mpg on the highway, can drive where ever and it will still go 140 mph at the track. turbos have their own headaches.

dollar for dollar there is no comparison. a properly sized centrifugal will be cheaper and make more power then a kb for the pushrod motors. you can get a brand new SCi kit for 1600 that comes with a 3 year warranty

Heads bored? wtf? Ok, anyway, to answer your question, 4 psi won't overcome the power robbed from the engine to turn the supercharger. Not worth the money or time to install. Get the vortech or paxton 9 pound kit. I bolted one on a STOCK, not just stock motor, stock headers, smog pump, cats, stock exhaust, everything. It was a 120k mile vert and he wanted more power for the best bang for the buck. We bolted on a Paxton Novi 2000, 9psi kit, made close to that boost and made 340 rwhp with a very safe and conservative tune. We added an aftermarket exhaust with headers, H and cat back and it made nearly 375. Not bad for box stock. We put 42 lb injectors in it and a matching ProM 80mm meter on it. It was 180 hp stock. So it picked up 160 hp from just bolting on a supercharger and a tune. Very good return on his investment. jmho.

No KB doesn't make an intercooler kit for 5.0s, however they can be intercooled you just have to buy the intercooler and do all the fab work yourself or have a shop do it. Don't remember where but I found a couple of intercooled KB 5.0s. All in all though, my KB doesn't get excessively hot, yes it gets hot, but I've never had the thermometer go over 180* on the unit and that was on an extremely hot Southern Louisiana day after some aggressive driving. The unit usually hovers around 165*. All in all, it's his choice as to what he wants to do, we can argue and debate things with no real right or wrong answer all day, but in the end, it is his choice. You like centrifugal, I like twin screw, others like turbos, some don't care, it's all personal opinion anyways.

if people are concerned about heat, just do a water/meth kit... they are amazing! Also, I run 12 psi on the kenne bell without any problems. They also sound like a jet engine lol The noise makes it feel like 400 times faster :) Also, I'd say it doesn't really matter about milage, but condition of the internals, top end, etc. If they are strong, for a DD I'd go with 7-9 psi...
