Well... it's still up in the air with what h/c/i I am going to put on our engine. That's going to take some time for me to research and look around and see what I may be able to get used.

However... what things will definitely have to be upgraded? Fuel pump? Injectors? MAF? Intake (tube from TB to fender), Fuel Pressure regulator? Etc?? What brand should we go with and where is a good place to get them for a good price?

Let me know what is a must to change and I will have to buy anyway, and I can start piecing these together as I decide on the variables.

Thank you!

BTW, 3.73s (to be installed) +h/c/i will = ;D right?

It really depends on the induction combo you use, but for a basic NA street buildup here's a general idea

65mm TB
75mm MAF
24 lb Injectors
190 lph Fuel Pump
New Spark Plugs (for aluminum heads)

And here are parts you'll need if you're buying the heads, cam , and intake separately as opposed to a kit

Gasket kit
Pushrods
Roller Rockers
Timing Chain
Lifters (not a must, but still a good idea)
Head and Intake Bolts
Thermactor Plugs (unless you're keeping the smog system)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few misc. bits but that should give you a general idea. O0

Okay guys thanks, these are things I can just buy now while I wait to decide/find the h/c/i stuff.

Are there any BRANDS of the above mentioned parts you would reccommend? Where from?

Mind you, we don't want or need any bling, so just functional parts are best. IE no chrome/polished stuff. Just stuff that will do the job properly!

Thanks!

no idea really. $1000-$2000 maybe. Maybe more, it's gonna be all over time as I piece it together. All labor will be my own.

FWIW whatever budget you determine (for anybody's budget really), I'd put the most money in the biggest bottlenecks on the car, which in this case is the heads. Mainly because when changing the intake and cams you're not adding power as much as you are simply moving the torque curve up the RPM range, the stock intake and cam is pretty efficient as far as creating a wide powerband, even better if you add some higher ratio rockers to the mix. Good heads you'll get big gains everywhere without losing a bit of streetability or gas mileage, and you'll still get similar overall power to if you'd have spent the money on lesser heads, intake, cams, etc. Then if you decide you want better intake, cams, etc., the gains that come from them are that much more.

Okay, well, what heads would be the best bang for my buck? GT40x or should I save up for some twisted wedge heads? I really think with the money flow I have I either need to piece it together or diligently save up for that trick flow kit.

hmm

I have it narrowed down either to piecing together GT40 pieces or the trick flow kit.

Thanks guys... keep the input coming the more info the better. I have a few projects going right now that put this in the backburner, but I'm st ill researching/saving up while I do my other work.

as for the injectors and MAF... you want 24 lb? I've heard 30.. or is 24 more than enough for h/c/i and bolt ons?

And also, you want to get a MAF meant for the injectors you have right? IE a MAF tuned for 24 lb?
high flow cats

just some of the stuff that is there.

would the above mentioned setup be a good budget build to give the car a huge wakeup?

Seems to be something I could get a fair amount of the parts used an djust inspect/recondition them at school.

andddd would be good because I'm on a budget, and it's not going to be a track car, just want it quicker for our street use...

thanks

I second the AFR 165s. Probably the best street head out there for a 302, out of the box at least.

The Explorer intakes aren't bad, but they don't flow as well as even the Cobra intakes, much less the GT-40 or aftermarket ones (better than stock, though). Not a bad intake, but not the greatest so take that into account when pricing it.

that's odd I get such mixed reports about the explorer intakes . Some say it's dang close to a cobra intake for the price, some say it's not. ::sigh:: well we are on a budget so I guess it will do. It plus some good heads and an E303 will probably make us very happy with the result.

Well I just talked to the guy and I will be going ot take a look at the intake this saturday evening. He settled for $175 cash if I decide to buy it, that's the upper, lower, throttle body and all the electronics and injectors.

For clarity, I'd say it's an intermediate step between the stocker and the Cobra intake. Not a bad intake by any means for street use. For $175 for everything you mentioned it's a good deal
