I've been watching gas prices and they're going up quick here in KS, so I was looking into something a little better with gas. I dont want an import, so I thought why not a 4cyl ranger turbo, then it hit me. I can get an SVO, has anybody here had/have one of these rare cars? I've always liked them, I know they can be fast and they get good gas mileage. Anybody see any really cool ones at carshows or anything?

SVOs are cool cars. I was looking for one to replace my SRT with but the problem is finding some in good condition. They can be had cheap but they're not in the best shape. About what you think you'd find when looking for a 20-something year old car.

Yeah, I can always fix it up...I just need something with better gas mileage, but I want to stay domestic without losing a shit-ton of power.
And Jon Huber's isnt an SVO, its just a turbo-4

Neither Flander or Huber are running anything even remotely close to a a 2.3L Turbo motor either. Both are using the 2.5 tall blocks and a buncha expensive mumbo jumbo that no regular Joe could ever do or afford unless backed by some giant race shop with tons of money and experience.

Overall, 2.3T cars are fun. I had a 83 Turbocoupe for awhile, 225,000+ miles and still running without a hitch, even after it dropped a lash adjuster!

Do you remember your gas mileage and stuff like that?

I imagine it couldn't be any worse than any other 20-year old Mustang and the typical turbo annoyances. But I'm not sure, I'm as interested as you are to see about his headaches.

My first two cars were Turbo Coupes. Loved em. Easy to work on, easy to make relatively fast. Tough little motors. Mine had about 230rwhp at 20psi and still got 36mpg on the highway. The turbo sound is addictive though, it's hard to stay out of it!

Yup just sold mine for $1300. Had 190000ish miles on factory motor, turbo, everything. Even had the factory head gasket. Had a 22 gallon fuel tank and got 33+ mpg. You could fill that sucker up and go for a month.

But when you stay in the gas (which you will, just to hear that jet noise under your hood) you'll get the mpg of a normal v8!!!

excuse the tractor sound, it was a full open 3" exhaust. Went from the elbow to the downpipe to the rest of the exhaust :D

I was getting about 25-28 MPG. That is a rough idea. I haven't had the car in almost 6-7 years now. I built the car to play with the V8 guys so MPG wasn't a big deal for me. :p And man where they pissed. hahahaa

I get 33 MPG and that's romping on the throttle. I normally get about 38 or so. I fill up once every week for 12 bucks and that's that.

Well there's a local on that's DSG(dark shadow grey?) and it has a couple bolt-ons and it's setup for track use. It's a decent price and I need MPG really bad, lol
