hey guys, well as everyone knows, or most know, my cobra ive been driving for two years now is my first car and first stick ive ever driven...

ive had the feeling that my syncros were going back in my tranny but im not sure because I dont know what bad syncros feel like. i can still shift and get into gear with no grinding but its very notchy when i shift. it also seems to take longer to shift into second, third, and fourth under normal driving.

can anyone describe to me a few symptoms of bad syncros? i dont know really what to tell you guys cause i dont know much about it. im trying to figure this out now because the motor will be out soon and would make the perfect opportunity to get it rebuilt if needed.

thanks ladies. :thumb:

hmm...... iono.

maybe ill have my tuner driver it and see what he thinks. its grinded a total of like 3 times going into 5th with the clutch fully out but it hasn't done that in months. also, sometimes when im at a stop light in neutral, i can try and go into first and its like totally blocked off.. just like how you have to go into a forward gear to get into reverse because reverse is blocked off.... it happens rarely but it does happen.

Mine occasionally grinds into Fifth as well. If the trans is cold and I speed-shift into 2nd or 3rd I get that KKKKZZZZSSSHHHT we all hate to hear. Therefore I just let it warm up... I get a ton of noise through my pro 5.0, the Rock Crusher handle amplifies it... Always just a little vibration through the shifter too.

I think Aaron's got it, but let me ask- have you changed the trans fluid at all? Even some fresh fluid can help.

TX I have that problem with First as well, especially since I tend to leave it in Neutral when sitting stopped. Sometimes I have to put it into Second then shove it into First.

yeah the tranny has royal purple fluid in it that went in last summer i think.

i guess everythings fine, just shifting under normal conditions seems to take longer and seems "notchier" if thats the right word..

Paranoia :)

When I first got my Tri Ax it was awesome. Then after awhile it seemed like it got notchy but it was just me getting used to it.

anyone know how to do that thing where you shift gears without using the clutch. you just rev match and slowly push it in? I can't get it!! I've only been able to do it once. but I had my friend drive my car today and he did it in every gear. I'm so jealous.

It takes a while to master but it's a piece of cake once you do... I'll generally leave just the slightest bit of pressure on the shifter- if you rev match correctly, you can just slide 'er right into gear. If you don't... LOL

grind city lol. i almost don't want to practice on my own tranny cause i don't want to grind. but my tranny already makes grinding noises when it bogs. but i don't want it to get worse.

haha i use to do that with my 1995 v6 mustang. i use to get it perfect everytime. i cant do that with the cobra though, i actually never tried but it just doesnt feel like it would do it, and i dont want to breeak anything so im not going to try haha.

I get that "1st gear block" sometimes too.

i get this also, but while shifting into third gear. rarely first. its very frustrating sometimes. today i installed a tri-ax and its obviously wayyy better then the stock one. i was hoping it would make the "blocking" go away, but when i found out it didnt i was pretty dissappointed. still love the shifter though

so can anyone answer why exactly does this happen?
