Ight, so I put in a 180 thermo in the other day. The one I had on there had never been changed. I did not drill the little hole on it, is it going to kill anything? Before I put the new thermo in the temp gauge reads at just above the cool line after 30 mins of driving. After a few of hours of driving around town sometimes I will reach "o" then it will suddenly cool down to just above the cool line. After installing the new one nothing has changed. Is there anything wrong with this? Does anyone else not have the hole in theirs? My brother seems to think its fine for now but might cause a problem later.

-When I first bought the car it would register straight up and down on the temp gauge (before the new compressor).

-I do have a different (larger) belt on there. This was due to a bigger diameter a/c compressor I replaced.

-I haven't really noticed a difference in fuel economy.

Changing a thermo will have zero affect on your temp once the motor reaches operating temp

All that a lower temp does is open sooner allowing coolant to flow from the radiator to the motor

The drilled hole allows a little bit of coolant to flow into the motor, not 100% necessary but in my opinion a good idea to do
