Things to look for in a used Transmission???

Okay so I have been lucky enough to have never had to buy a transmission for any of my Mustangs. Just wondering if there was anything I should specifically look for when going to buy one. I know with dealing with people through Craigslist that 90% of them are not going to be honest so I figure I should try to get some info on where to start. Anyone have any good tips? Me and my bank account would appreciate it!

#1 Meet at there house. Why? Because you will know which window to throw it through.

#2 idk. I'm interested in what else to look at.

Matching numbers on the main case/tailstock/tag..make sure it spins smooth without any obvious/erratic noises

How do I spin it? Input or output? In a gear or not? What if there is no shifter on it? Should there be any play in either shafts?
