i'd go with the viper spec. you have an extra gear so you can get better gas mileage. also, i watched a vip of a heffner TT viper with the stock tranny so multiple runs with slicks w/out breaking.....until he hit round 200 in 6th gear, he blew 6th.

a friend of mine has a Roe blown Viper with the stock tranny. he's pushing 925 to the wheels and has blown 5th twice.

hope that little info helps. i do think the tko would be stronger, but i love 6 speeds!

i have a t-56 and i love it. On the highway with 3.73's im right at 2k rpm roughly. the TKO's say they will hold alot more tourque and HP but i have never heard of a t56 getting destroyed due to having too much power. Hey if its good enough for the new gt 500s its probably good enough for you. my only recomendation is dont run the dexron III if you decide to get it, you will get all kinds of gear noise after about 2500 miles or so. tremec said instead to run syncro gear mesh oil in it cause its heavier and will stop the noise it will make. apprantly the gt 500s had the same issue so the added that and a silencer plate to further reduce the noise.

The TKO 600 is built to handle 600 lb. ft. of torque. If you are not going to be close to that then the tranny will be overkill. You will feel the seriousness of the stoutness of the tranny on every shift. It will also take away some power because of its stoutness. I would only use it if you needed that kind of strength.

I got a t-56 behind a blown 331 that makes close to 650 ft. lbs. It has been a great trans good gas millage thinks to 6th gear and can still handle the power and strain. i have drivin cars with tko's and t-56's, for cars that are going to be daily drivin i would diffinently go with the t-56 much easier shifts and quieter in my oppinion.
