I'm replacing a siezed motor in my 1996 GT. It is an auto. My question is, can I remove the motor with the torque converter still attached to the flex plate or do I need to unbolt it? I would prefer to pull the motor only and leave the trans in the car. Thanks.

It is customary to remove the engine w/o the converter attached. Could damage the front trans pump bushing & seal.

As soon as the engine is removed, slide a large pan under the front of the trans (3 or 4 qt's of fluid will follow it) and slide the converter out carefully to avoid pump bushing damage. Always, always replace the front trans seal, good condition or not.

Inspect the converter "neck" for wear. It's a good indicator of front trans bushing wear as well.
