Does anyone else's tranny when put in reverse for the first time in a while hunch the car down in the back?

It's done this since i bought it. Still dose'nt have any problems shifting. Sometimes it might make a grinding noise too.

95-AODE-133k-New ATF fluid- also new diff fluid.

yeah, mine has always kind of lurched. should be normal

how ling has it been between fluid changes?

i have heard, and is why i am not changing my fluid, that changing the tranny fluid on a high mileage auto without any other previous changes doesnt more harm than good

my ASE certified Master Tech auto teacher told me this and i have heard the same on other boards.

J.R. should have a better grasp on the issue

Well the guy I bought it from said he didn't know much about it. I'm guessing it never had been changed (@127k). I had the fluid flushed and replaced, you could feel the difference immediately (129k).

I don't see why changing the atf could be a bad idea. AODE's are cheap and easy to find.

i have been told that changing the fluid washes out clutches or bands (cant remember which one, i hate autos) that are crucial to keeping the tranny from slipping.

my Auto teacher recommended me to not change my fluid and run it until it goes.

again, i hope J.R. sees this thread and makes a recommendation for what should be addressed.
i say it is fine, but i would like his opinion as well

Ugh, i hate these threads, because descriptions on the internet are so hard to nail.

It's probably fine, the grinding is weird though. Does it do that when you shift into reverse?

Anyhow, as far as flushing transmissions goes... The problem is, people don't chenge their fluid the way they should... So, they run 100k plus miles, the transmission starts to act weird, then they decide "oh gee, something is wrong, maybe I'll flush the thing"... Which they should have done 80k miles ago... Then the transmission goes out like it already was anyway, and they blame it on the fluid flush.

The first transmission I ever built (4r100) is in a F350 and has over 220k on it since the rebuild, still going strong, in a tow truck that get's the fluid changed every 30k miles whether it likes it or not.

Once a problem becomes evident however, flushing is almost never going to help, and almost always just wastes money.

@Jr It only does it when I start the car for the first time. after I drive 20 feet i can put it in reverse without any "lurching." Its true people don't think they need to replace there tranny fluid as often as they should. But ignorance is bliss.

The only reason I had the fluid changed was because it was dropping out of OD. Changed it and no problems to date. Cheap car cheap fix.

The end.
