trans noise?

I just took my first long trip nd 95 gt i just bought There seems to b a grinding sound or a very fast rattling sound Right underneath the shifter i was wondering if it maybe the drive shaft or if it's the tranny or what it might b is it anything to worry about . it seems to do it when i am in fifth and i let off the gas then i can really hear it thanks for any help sorry for the run on sentence i m using my phone

Hm... grinding noise on de-acceleration... that sounds like bearings in the transmission going. try an oil change, make sure you use Dextron 3 or 4, I use synthetic Valvoline cuz its easy to get. it takes 3 quarts. there is a plug on the passenger side of the trans, it uses a 3/8" ratchet to take off. you can pour the new oil into the shifter hole.

Okay thanks for the help as for the shifter hole i'm sorry i'm kind of new to this is it underneath the shifter do i have to take the shifter boot off or is it under the car. Basically are you telling me to drain the transmission oil and replace with new

ya, its under the shifter. you will have to gently pull the fancy shifter boot off, twist your shift knob off, then use a 8mm socket and long extension to get the plate with the rubber boot off. then the shifter will come off with 4 13mm bolts, and you can pull it off.

Or, you can pump the oil into the side of the transmission, that works too. there is a second plug at the top.

Would mobil 1 full synthetic atf work or does it have to be dex ron 3 or 4

if its rated for Dextron 3 and 4, thats what the trans is designed for.

I've used Synchromesh with hapiness following, I've even used motor oil, depnds lol.

Ive heard rumors of 5w30, synchromesh, and even tried different oils. I road race and used to drag, and the best luck has been with Dextron 3/4, preferably a synthetic. (4 transmissions later.... haha!)
