So about a month or so ago my t-5 started grinding third gear so i pulled it out and took it to a local transmission shop. They rebuilt it and i got everthing bolted back up no worries. about two weeks later my trans started leaking. After dealing with it for a little (and waiting for a cruise to pass ;]) i pulled it and took it back over there. They told me the input shaft was too short and because of it being short the throw out bearing? would cause the input shaft to shake and therefore breaking the seal. So they put the "correct" input shaft in it which was about 1/4" longer and now my trans wont go back in. Coincidentally its about 1/4" from the bellhousing but its connected to the clutch splines because when you put it in gear and manually turn the crank the output shaft turns. Could it be that i have the wrong bellhousing? The part number off of it is RF-F4ZR-6394-CA. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Correct bellhousing. That's a mustang 94-95 5.0. I've heard of cobra's having different length setups. It's possible you've gotten a cobra input shaft, therefore the different length, however I wouldn't hold my breath.

well i took the clutch/housing off and set up the trans w/ those off of the car and everything fit up fine. my guess if it isnt too long of an input shaft then the pilot bearing got warped when it was shaking around? it seems like it should have enough room.....

Not very likely that you have the wrong bellhousing.

Where exactly did the leak come from?

Steven...Cobra got the same T5 as a GT.

When My T5 started to leak I pulled it out and torn it apart myself, checked everything in side, cleaned it up and then resealed it with the orange silicone. I think thats the high temp stuff. It has worked perfect for me, cause I have not had it leak at all now. So the bottom of the stang looks clean and not greasy from the fluid.

I have went through like 4 T5 trans. First one locked up, second one popped out of first, third one lasted 6 months and locked up, fourth one I think I am on now lol. I noticed it was getting low on fluid and took care of the leak. Dont know why they like to leak but they do.

Its not your bellhousing, the shaft is just fine, if there was a bunch of grease where the pilot bearing goes, then that would cause the tranny to not want to go back in at all. I had that happen before from my friends dad installing the pilot bearing on mine and then my friend and I had a 3 hour fight to get the tranny in place.

The only difference between the T5's for the Cobra/Gt and 3.8 is the gearing in them. I do not think the input shaft cover is longer but it possibly is too. Everything else is pretty much the same between them though.

ha its funny that you bring this thread back up. they changed the input shaft after i took it back to the shop and it feels so much smoother than it ever has before! Pilot bearing and input shaft got changed. The only PITA now is that when it was messing up before hand, it busted the rear main seal so now its leaking oil and i gotta do the hole damn thing again andsglakngdkl gay
